About the Beaters Girls

SMK Creative is a Boston-based boutique design firm specializing in graphics, environments, and apparel. The company is the brainchild of Sarah Hewins, Marilyn Shen and Kara Chase, three local designers who met while studying at the New England School of Art and Design.

About Us

The idea of “beaters” was born in a café in Milan, Italy while we were studying abroad. With our distinct fashion styles and varied backgrounds, we brought together a touch of imagination, street smarts, and class to create a fashion style that makes a statement.

Sarah

Sarah has a Sociology degree from Colby College and a Masters in Interior Design from New England School of Art and Design. An entrepreneur at heart, Sarah is always looking for new ideas and establishing new business ventures. Her faith and vision in beaters is the driving force behind our success. Currently, Sarah works for an interior design firm in Boston, specializing in retail design.

Marilyn

Marilyn has an Economics degree from Wellesley College and a Masters in Interior Design from New England School of Art and Design. Previous to embarking on a design career, Marilyn worked in global consulting, specializing in branding strategies. She brings to beaters the business savvy and out of box thinking to create the ideal shopping environment for our customers. Currently, Marilyn works for an architecture firm specializing in corporate design.

Kara

Kara has a Fine Arts degree from the School of Fine Arts, USC and a Masters in Interior Design from New England School of Art and Design. Formerly, the Director of an art gallery in Los Angeles, Kara has extensive exposure to the creative community. Kara’s artistic talent inspires and brings to life all of our beater designs. Currently, Kara works as a freelance Public Relations Consultant.
